Quick, Easy, and Delicious Meals for a Busy College Student
College students lead busy lives, from attending classes, and completing projects, to going out with friends. There’s hardly any time to cook, so many students end up ordering delivery food or eating fast food. However, this usually puts a hole in their pocket and adds a few pounds to the weighing scale.
The good news is that there are quick, easy, and delicious meals for a busy college student that you can easily make. While most dorms don’t have a kitchen, off-campus housing usually does.
One of these is the Fillmore Inn.
All residents have access to a shared kitchen where they can whip up great meals and store them in the fridge until it’s time to eat. Here are a few of our favorite college-friendly recipes, all care of It’s Always Autumn.
Delicious Meals for a Busy College Student
Greek Chicken Wrap
Put cooked chicken, a bag of lettuce mix, sliced tomatoes, and feta cheese in a tortilla. Top the mixture with ranch dressing, greek yogurt, or hummus. Tip: mix the leftover feta cheese and tomatoes into scrambled eggs for your next meal
Avocado Toast w/ Egg
Toast a slice of whole grain bread and top with half a sliced avocado and chopped tomato. Top with a fried or poached egg. Optional: smash the avocado up with salsa to get some extra flavor.
Spaghetti + Meatballs
Always a go-to for students. Boil a handful of spaghetti noodles. Next, put a few frozen meatballs in a small saucepan and cover them with pre-prepared spaghetti sauce. Bring to a simmer then cover until meatballs are warmed.
Pesto Chicken or Turkey
If you like pesto, keep a jar in your fridge. You can use it on pizza, pasta, or a sandwich. For a yummy sandwich, toast bread and spread it with pesto and a little mayo. Top with cooked chicken or sliced turkey, tomato, lettuce, cheese, and bacon.
Cherry Berry Smoothie
Mix Vanilla Greek yogurt with a cup of cherries, blueberries, and two large handfuls of spinach. Keep your spinach in the freezer, so it doesn’t go bad.
BBQ Chicken Salad
Warm up frozen cooked chicken with BBQ sauce over the stove until heated through. You can also cook some chicken tenders and top with BBQ sauce. Chop lettuce, tomatoes, carrots, cucumber, peppers, or any other vegetables you have on hand. Top with the BBQ chicken, grated cheese, and ranch dressing.
Being a college student is no joke. You pack your schedule with classes, reports, juggling projects, sports, attending classes, and spending time with friends. You’ll have little or no time to cook. However, cooking is much healthier than ordering from your nearest fast-food restaurant.
With the recipes above, we’re sure you’ll find something delicious and easy to make that’s better than another burger or pizza slice.
The Fillmore Inn offers off-campus housing, perfect for busy college students. Each unit has a shared unit where residents can whip up their favorite meals and lessen their fast food intake.
